4 months ago, I wasn't able to run more than 4km 🏃🏼♂️
Let me share with you how I did this ⬇️
For those who know me well, you know that I am already doing a lot of sport: 3 to 4 workout sessions per week (3.84 last year to be precise).
But I had no stamina. Climbing 3 floors took my breath away..
So, I decided to follow my usual approach when learning a new skill:
1. Call people that achieved what I want to achieve (cc Fabien, thanks for your precious advice and your support 🙏)
2. Watch dozens of videos to understand the basics
3. Practise, practise, practise
Here is what I learned about myself: I didn't know how to run 😱
Crazy right? I mean, I have been running since I was three years old and I have to learn everything from scratch again...
The first month was the hardest one (and the most frustrating one).
You have to:
- keep your ego on the side
- accept you are a beginner in this sport
- running small distances (even if you believe you can do more) in order for your body to create the muscles/tendons required for this sport
The first kilometers are always painful during that first month, your body makes you feel that you shouldn't do this.
And then, one day, you feel like a gazelle!
You start enjoying all the sessions you're doing.
Pain doesn't exist anymore (except over a very long distance, when you go beyond your limits), you feel that your muscles are taking it all.
Kind of magic 🪄
Here are my key learnings if you want to start as well:
- you probably don't know how to run properly. Be humble and start from scratch
- get through the first month
- enjoy
Now, you may wonder: why is he publishing this on Linkedin? Isn't it a professional social network?
I wanted to show you what I meant by "Health & Family > Work" (one of my previous posts).
If you've read it this far, it's likely that you enjoyed the content!
Consider giving it a thumbs up to show your support 👍
