5 years ago, almost nobody worked remotely.
By 2021, every office-based knowledge worker on the planet figured out what it was like working from home.
Everyone drew roughly the same conclusion:
It’s better than the alternative.
- No commute
- More flexibility for kids
- Higher-quality life at home
- More time for travel/experiences
The benefits were obvious.
But, at the time, most people had two major objections:
1. Lack of face-to-face team collaboration
2. Lack of personal connection (aka human interaction)
For managers and leaders, it was unclear (and still today IS unclear) how remote work would influence things like culture, innovation, and team-building.
But we quickly figured out how.
And the smart companies came out winners.
The future of work changed, whether you like it or not.
TAKEAWAY:
No matter how much you want to return to 2019, the genie is out of the bottle.
We're watching remote-first companies scale faster than companies that aren't.
Hiring will decide who succeeds and who fails in the next stage of business.
Put yourself in position to win.
Remote work is the key.
