Co-founder relationships can make or break a startup.
You hear this a lot: "Find a co-founder with complementary skills!"
That's actually the wrong approach.
Skill gaps can be hired for, but values can't.
What truly matters is sharing the same vision, work ethic, and principles. When challenges hit, and they always do, aligned values keep you on the same path.
If one values transparency and the other doesn’t, you’ll hit trust issues. If one’s hungry for growth and the other’s risk-averse, you’ll be constantly at odds.
Sure, skill diversity is great. But a mismatch in values? That’s a deal-breaker.
So when you’re picking a co-founder, forget about skills for a moment. Focus on the deeper stuff. The stuff that truly matters.
Because in the end, skills build a business. Values build a lasting partnership.
