Have you ever heard of the “neighbor's grass is always greener” syndrome?
You know, when your neighbor has:
- Higher MRR
- Higher growth rates
- Lower churn
- Better profitability
No matter how successful you are, you're always gonna suffer from it.
Here's why:
It’s human nature to measure yourself against one data point (a successful neighbor).
But you never take the dozens of others into consideration (who have worse metrics than you).
My co-founder and I try not to freak out that X, Y, or Z company is growing faster than us.
I remind myself of these core truths:
1. The TAM of HR tech is massive
2. Every company needs effective HR solutions
3. We have huge potential ahead of us
4. The score at any given time means nothing
5. The game results aren’t posted until the clock runs out
6. We're a lean, scrappy team with limitless potential
Stay focused on your mission.
Don't compete against neighbors.
Compete against yourself.
