I was ๐ช๐ฅ๐ข๐ก๐ this all time... You might be too if you think ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ด๐ถ๐ณ๐ ๐ฌ Let me explain ๐
Last week, I read Carol Dweck's book "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" and it completely changed my vision of the world ๐คฏ
Carol explains the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. One of the key differences is that growth-minded people believe intelligence and talents can be developed through effort (whereas those with a fixed mindset see these traits as static).
โณ But what other things differentiate a fixed and a growth mindset?
โ Someone with a ๐ณ๐ถ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ mindset will:
โข Focus on appearing smart and competent.
โข Avoid challenges for safe and familiar tasks.
โข Think hard work is viewed as a sign of inadequacy.
โข Perceive setbacks as a reflection of inherent inability.
โข Believe intelligence and talents are seen as fixed traits.
โ Someone with a ๐ด๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐๐ต mindset will:
โข Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
โข Perceive setbacks as valuable learning experiences.
โข View hard work is a pathway to mastery and success.
โข Believe intelligence and talents can be developed through effort.
โข Seek out new and difficult challenges to foster continuous learning.
Before reading this book, I used to think that we all come to earth with some ability, intelligence, and talents but that we still could improve at those and in other areas. I was f*****g WRONG!
Now, I am 100% convinced that intelligence, talents, and abilities can be developed through effort, and that's what I'll tell my children ๐ถ๐ฑ
By the way, we're all a mix of growth and fixed mindsets; no one can claim they are 100% growth mindset. (If you do, you're probably exhibiting a false growth mindset ๐)
