If you insist on people working from an office they'll probably leave...
A friend recently shared a frustrating experience that highlights a growing issue in many workplaces.
Their boss sat everyone down for yet another "return-to-office" pep talk.
You know the drill: "In-person collaboration," "company culture," "team synergy"...all the usual slogans.
My friend could feel their eyes rolling into the back of their head.
They are all for teamwork and collaboration.
But forcing everyone into the same physical space? Come on.
If the past couple of years have proven anything, it's that people can be productive (if not more) from home.
Was it really about collaboration, though?
Or was it about micromanaging, checking screens, and seeing who's really “online"?
So here’s what happened:
↳ A third of the team started looking for new jobs.
↳ Productivity didn’t go up. It tanked.
↳ Morale hit rock bottom.
Who could blame them?
Insist on office-only and you'll watch your talent walk out the door.
If "butts in seats" measure leadership's effectiveness, there's a bigger issue than where the team works from...
Think about it.
