we need to talk about the feedback « S*** Sandwich »... 🥪💩🥪
Ever had a performance review that felt like a mix between a compliment and a slap?
Yeah, me too.
A manager once praised my "great teamwork" before diving into how my "inconsistency" was an issue.
Then, of course, ended with another pat on the back about my "positive attitude."
Classic feedback sandwich.
Unappetizing and confusing.
👉 Some reasons why this method should be in the trash:
↳ It's manipulative.
↳ It's unclear.
↳ It dilutes important messages.
↳ Employees see right through it. 🚫🔍
I left that meeting dazed.
Was I doing great or failing?
Who knows? 🤷
Clarity is key.
When managers sugarcoat, they contribute to a lack of trust and misunderstanding.
People deserve straightforward, honest feedback.
If you need to give constructive criticism, just do it.
Employees respect transparency.
Why dance around the issue?
Give credit where it's due.
Then, be direct about the areas needing improvement.
No need for a second helping of flattery.
Imagine a world where we communicate openly and constructively.
Teams would flourish.
Trust would be built.
Motivation would soar.
Stop serving s*** sandwiches.
The future of effective feedback is honest, clear, and genuine.
Who’s with me? 🙋♂️🙋♀️
